Thomas J. Doherty, Psy.D.
Dr. Thomas Doherty is a licensed, doctoral-trained psychologist with over 20 years of experience. He works with high functioning adults, couples and adult families who are negotiating life changes, family or career issues, health problems, or issues with anxiety and depression. Dr. Doherty is supportive, direct and inspiring and is highly rated by clients. He tailors his approach to each person; honors racial, ethnic and sexual diversity; and provides short and long-term counseling.
Dr. Doherty is trained in effective approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, client-centered therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and interpersonal therapy. He trains counselors at Lewis & Clark Graduate School. Dr. Doherty is also a national expert on psychology and the natural environment.
Thomas Doherty is originally from Buffalo, New York. He was educated at Columbia University and Antioch New England Graduate School. He draws on early career experiences as a wilderness therapist, professional whitewater rafting guide, environmental advocate, and intern in a behavioral medicine clinic. Thomas is a parent of an eight-year-old and lives with his family in Northeast Portland.
